12/24/2006 - Oakland, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Larry Johnson ran for 135 yards and scored a touchdown to lead the Kansas City Chiefs over the Oakland Raiders, 20-9, at McAfee Coliseum.
Trent Green ended 12-of-24 for 148 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the Chiefs (8-7), who ended a three-game slide and kept their slim playoff hopes alive.
Justin Fargas ran for 90 yards and Andrew Walter threw for 226 yards for Oakland (2-13), which has lost eight straight games in a single season for the first time in 34 years. Walter, however, also threw two picks and committed four turnovers, as the Raiders' horrid season continues.
The last time the Raiders dropped eight straight in a single season was in 1962 when the club lost 12 in a row to end that year 1-12. Oakland also went winless in the division for a second straight year with this setback. The Raiders' last win against an AFC West foe was on November 28, 2004 at San Diego.
The Raiders started out strong, scoring in the first quarter when Sebastian Janikowski capped a 57-yard, nine-play drive with a 25-yard field goal.
That, however, was the only time the Raiders would lead in the game as Kansas City took its ensuing possession in for a score. Green ended an 11-play, 60- yard march with a six-yard pass to Eddie Kennison for a 7-3 lead. The key play of the drive was a 4th-and-eight 24-yard completion from Green to Samie Parker. The Chiefs also converted a pair of third downs on the drive, including the touchdown play.
Lawrence Tynes later increased the Chiefs' lead to 10-3 when he converted a 29-yard field goal. The possession started after Walter lost a fumble at the Oakland 48-yard line.
The Raiders cut the deficit to 10-6 early in the second quarter when Janikowski nailed a 37-yard field goal, but that would be as close as Oakland would get the rest of the way.
Later in the quarter, after Walter lost his second fumble of the contest, Johnson ended a short five-play drive with a one-yard TD run for a 17-6 halftime advantage. The score came with just 40 seconds left in the stanza.
The second half went by with very little excitement. Janikowski kicked a 53- yard field goal at the 8:49 mark of the third quarter and Tynes answered with a 28-yarder with 1:20 gone in the fourth.
Ronald Curry had 106 yards on 11 catches for the Raiders.

Work left to do: Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Kansas State
Texas joins Texas A&M and Kansas as locks after getting league win No. 11. Texas Tech greatly helped its own hopes and crippled OK State's with the two-point win Saturday. Is K-State the last reasonable hopeful? Could be an elimination match in Stillwater on Tuesday, at least for the Cowboys.
Work left to do:
Texas Tech [18-11 (7-7), RPI: 44, SOS: 12] A critical two-point win over OK State leaves the Red Raiders with Baylor and at Iowa State left. Get both and the Red Raiders likely are good to go. Get one and there could be some interesting comparisons with a K-State team that could finish two or three games "ahead" of them in the standings but doesn't have any of the quality wins Texas Tech has. Not a lot in nonconference play (against Arkansas in Little Rock being the best win, by far) to lean on.
Oklahoma State [18-9 (5-8), RPI: 50, SOS: 35] Still without a road win, the Cowboys now need to win two on the road just to get to .500 in conference play. It's hard to recall a team (OK, other than Clemson) falling so precipitously from lock status to almost certainly out of the NCAAs at this point. There are wins to be had in the last three, including a very big home game against K-State on Tuesday, but this team is reeling. Can you tell the pressure to win is getting to them with the way the final possession played out at Texas Tech? There are some good nonconference performances to lean on, specifically beating Missouri State and Syracuse on neutral floors and Pitt in OK City, but if the Pokes don't right this very, very soon, that won't be enough.
Kansas State [20-9 (9-5), RPI: 56, SOS: 96] It pays to be in the Big 12 North. The nine league wins are Colorado (twice), Missouri (twice), Iowa State (twice), Baylor, Nebraska and (a good one against) Texas. That helps explain the middling computer profile. The win over USC is nice, but the nonconference leaves a lot to be desired. The game at OK State in Stillwater on Tuesday is huge, as it could KO the Cowboys and leave K-State with a home date against Oklahoma with which to work.
